Heather

Boss mare extraordinaire. Meet Heather, our fearless leader.

Heather isn’t your typical Equestrian professional. She offers her students a unique and refreshing perspective on riding and horsemanship.

Heather began working with Arabian horses at the age of 8 and has a special love for and dedication to the breed. She worked with various local horse trainers through-out her adolescence in rural south Georgia then moved to Jupiter, Fl in 1997 to further her professional equestrian experience. Heather studied with several of the top Arabian horse trainers before settling in as Assistant Trainer for Missy Gilliland Dressage in 2014. Now Heather dedicates her time to Dynamite Riding Academy, her horses & students.

In addition to her work with horses, Heather studied Psychology at Albany State University and Arizona State University. Heather has worked in the Behavioral Health field for more than 10 years, concentrating in the areas of addiction medicine, adolescent psychology and equine therapy. Heather believes there is a strong psychological element to horseback riding that she tries to help her students recognize during her lessons. The horse-human connection is strong and powerful when utilized correctly. Heather enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities and has a special love and gift for aiding and teaching newcomers to the horse world. Heather also specializes in helping returning equestrians re-start their riding after an injury or fall or after a break from riding of any kind.

Originally hailing from Georgia, Heather brings all of her southern charms to the Academy. She can tell you all about what makes the best grits (butter, lots of butter. & salt.) and how the Bulldogs season is going. Somehow, this southern belle landed in Arizona and we are lucky to have her.

If you see Heather it wouldn’t be weird to see a little white dog following her. That’s her bff Jaxson. He is a malti-poo and loves his job as the official greeter at DRA.

In her spare time, Heather enjoys watching hockey, specifically the Arizona Coyotes. She also loves spending time with friends, pool side if possible.
